How to care for your new Tattoo

The way you care for your new Tattoo will directly affect how quickly it heals and how good it looks.

When the artist has finished your Tattoo, he will apply a temporary dressing. You should leave this dressing on for 1 - 2 hours.

It is important to prevent a scab from forming over the Tattooed area. This can be avoded b gently washing your tattoo with luke-warm soapy water, removing any blood or excess ink. Wash the Tattoo until the skin feels normal to the touch (but remember some soreness is inevitable afte being Tattooed). For best results, always use a mild, white, unscented soap, and carefully pat the skin dry with a clean, soft towl. DO NOT rub the Tattoo dry, as this will irritate the skin and may result in some loss of colour.

Try to wash your Tattoo at least 3-4 times a day for the first few days, as this will help your skin adjust more quickly.

After two days, start applying Savlon antiseptic cream (not spray) after washing and drying your Tattoo. It is very important that the Tattoo is dry before you apply the Savlon, since the Tattoo may be damaged if moisture is trapped under the cream. The Savlon will decrease the formation of scab tissue and greatly increase the speed of the healing proscess, resulting in a much brighter looking Tattoo. If you do notice any scabs forming, continue applying Savlon until they fully healed.
